2008-2009 COLLEGE FOOTBALL COACHING CHANGES
Schools that have already had coaching changes:
Clemson: Tommy Bowden was fired on October 13. Dabo Swinney was named interim head coach.
Kansas State: Ron Prince is out at the end of the season.
Tennessee: Phillip Fulmer is out at the end of the season.
Washington: Tyrone Willingham is out at the end of the season.
Schools likely to have coaching changes:
Florida Atlantic: The 74-year-old Howard Schnellenberger isn’t likely to be back at age 75.
Purdue: Joe Tiller will retire after the season.
Syracuse: Greg Robinson is expected to be fired.
Schools that could have coaching changes:
Ball State: Brady Hoke will be a hot candidate at several bigger programs.
Boise State: Chris Petersen says he’s happy where he is, but there will always be rumors he could leave.
Cal: Jeff Tedford’s name is always involved in the coaching carousel.
Cincinnati: Brian Kelly seems to have a wandering eye.
Penn State: 2008 could be Joe Paterno’s final season.
South Carolina: Steve Spurrier has expressed frustration with the administration.
TCU: Gary Patterson has been rumored to be interested in leaving, possibly for his alma mater, Kansas State.
USC: Every year at the end of the NFL season, rumors surface that Pete Carroll will return to the NFL.
Wake Forest: Jim Grobe looked into leaving last year and could look to leave again this year.
Coaches who could get head-coaching jobs:
Norm Chow: The longtime assistant, currently UCLA offensive coordinator, has been mentioned as a head-coaching candidate in many places.
Lane Kiffin: The former Raiders head coach is interested in returning to college football.
Steve Mariucci: The former Cal, Detroit Lions and San Francisco 49ers head coach would consider going back to the college sidelines.
