As I’m writing this, seven games involving Big Ten teams are in the fourth quarter, and they’re all ahead by enough that I can say the Big Ten will start the day 7-0.
And I can also say it’s an ugly 7-0 that doesn’t speak well for the conference.
Ohio kept things close at Ohio State into the fourth quarter. Ditto for Miami of Ohio at Michigan. The other five Big Ten teams all won by comfortable margins, but four of those games — Illinois-Eastern Illinois, Michigan State-Eastern Michigan, Iowa-Florida International, Purdue-Northern Colorado — are essentially exhibitions.
Only one early Big Ten score — Wisconsin running it up on Marshall — will look impressive in tomorrow’s paper, and even that game saw Marshall up 14-0 in the second quarter.
I don’t want to overreact to one early afternoon of football, but the Big Ten hasn’t impressed me today, even if the conference has won all seven games.

ECU just went up 17-3 on your beloved Mountaineers. I await the “hasn’t impressed me” post after the game.
But I do agree with you on your point. Sadly, in November nobody cares how you play in September. Heck, nobody cares how you play in October. It’s all about your record and how you played in your last two games.

Ha. I’m glad West Virginia is getting smoked by East Carolina. The Big 10 is a good conference.

Oregon St visiting PSU was ugly too. PSU starters played a little into the 3rd qtr, but it still seemed way too long, this one was over before the 1st qtr was done. The final was 45-14, but it wasnt nearly that close. The only offense OSU could muster was running the ball at 4 yards a clip once they were down by 21 or more and PSU was playing deep zone.

WOW! You have nothing to say after WVU loses to an unranked ECU team? It is amazing how you have nothing to say when YOUR team is getting pasted by an unknown, but Michigan (aka the coach stealers fro mthe North) and Rich Rod your former beloved head coach turned satan, loses to a good Utah team and you have rub it in with I told you so’s.
I loved every minute of your team losing yesterday….? BWAH HA HA HA!

As a big 10 fan I have to agree, we look horrid in this divison. purdue doesn’t look to hot, and Illinois can’t seem to hold anyone down defensivly. THe plus side is that with Ohio State looking bad the divison might but wide open.

Hey, renaissancemanrt, I have no idea why you think West Virginia losing would upset me, or why you think it’s relevant to a discussion of the Big Ten. I grew up in Michigan and went to Illinois. I’ve always been a huge Big Ten fan.
