We’re hearing increasing chatter from our NFL sources that South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier will retire after the 2008 season.
Spurrier, 63, was thought to be leaning heavily toward retirement before Saturday’s 56-6 debacle against Florida. It’s unknown whether the 50-point loss will affect Spurrier’s thought processes.
We’ve also heard that Spurrier is upset that South Carolina officials aren’t inclined to give the head coaching job to his son, Steve Spurrier, Jr.
Recently, a recruit indicated that he’d like to play for Spurrier, but that he has a feeling Spurrier could be retiring.
Spurrier coached the Redskins for a few not-so-memorable seasons after years of speculation that he’d leave the University of Florida, which he lead to a national championship in 1996.

this post is total garbage. just because some 18 year old kid gets a “feeling” doesn’t mean it’s worthy of speculative crap like this.
amazingly, spurrier took the time to address this junk, stating he’s not going anywhere and has at least 4-5 years left in him. he’s also stated he’s very excited about his current recruiting class, which is ranked in the top 15. below is the link:

I would guess that Florio’s “NFL sources” aren’t some 18 year old recruit. And I would also guess that some kid wouldn’t have any clue if there was friction in regards to Spurrier’s kid taking over the reins.
“stating that he’s not going anywhere”. heh…we’ve all heard that kind of bullshit before. If a head coach says something, there’s no way he would be lying about it, would he? Talk about “total garbage”.
