Former Alabama quarterback Ken Stabler has been acquitted of drunk driving charges.
Stabler, who was arrested on June 8 in Robertsdale, Alabama, had a bench trial this week. Said Municipal Judge James Sweet, “I just don’t think the city has met its burden of proof.”
As a player at Alabama, Stabler was a two-year starter under Bear Bryant, leading the team to an undefeated season in 1966.
Stabler was also the school’s radio analyst for 10 years before taking a leave of absence after the arrest. Today Alabama athletics director Mal Moore said he was “pleased for Kenny that he can move forward from this,” but there is no word on whether Stabler will be back to calling the Crimson Tide.
Stabler pleaded guilty to drunken driving in 2001 and pleaded no contest to DUI in 1995.
