After last night’s loss to Wake Forest, we noted that Clemson coach Tommy Bowden is on the hot seat.
Now Bowden has made that move that coaches on the hot seat so often make: The quarterback switch. Redshirt freshman Willy Korn will start next Saturday against Georgia Tech, and senior Cullen Harper will ride the pine.
“We’ve got to find a spark offensively, and with injuries we’ve had, we’ve re-evaluated our plan, and a more mobile quarterback gives us more, different options,” Bowden said. “We just need a spark. We’ve got to find something to spark us a little bit.”
That’s a stunning fall for Harper, who had an excellent season in 2007 and was the preseason ACC player of the year. But Harper has been lousy this season, and the switch is no surprise.
Korn was a Parade All-American at James F. Byrnes High School in Lyman, South Carolina, and was ranked the No. 25 prospect in the nation by recruiting analyst Tom Lemming coming out of high school. Signing him was a major recruiting accomplishment for Bowden, and now he’ll try to save Bowden’s job.
