As the Syracuse football program continues to disintegrate before our eyes, there’s a rumor of a fresh-faced NFL coach who might land in upstate New York before too long.
Per the Buffalo News, Raiders coach Lane Kiffin has been linked to the likely opening in the land of orange. The current head coach at Syracuse is Greg Robinson, a former NFL assistant coach.
With Kiffin due to participate in a conference call with Buffalo reporters as the Raiders plan to take on the Bills, there could be a question or two about the situation.
Rampant media reports indicated that Kiffin would be fired by the Raiders as soon as Wednesday. On Tuesday, Adam Schefter of NFL Network reported that Kiffin is safe for now. Even if he doesn’t get fired in the short term, he widely is regarded as the coach least likely to return to his current team in 2009.
In the offseason, Kiffin supposedly was in the mix for the vacancy at Arkansas. As we heard it over at PFT, he was pissed that he didn’t get the position. Kiffin denied that he was under consideration for the job.
Just like Nick Saban did as to Alabama two years ago.

For some reason I believe Kiff when he says that he wasn’t talking to Arkansas last year. If nothing else he has been brutally honest, almost to the point of fault.
I really hope he sticks around. He’s the best we’ve had in a while, and no one proven would ever consider coming to work for Al Davis.
Al doesn’t have long for this world, I’m afraid. If you watched the game Sunday he has developed that distant stare that people get when they’re about to die. That wasn’t there last year. After all that he has given the game I don’t have a problem with him running his team (which has been his life) his way, even if it means yet another year of misery for the fans.

If Kiffin has the ‘Cuse job he should walkin to Al Davis office and say
“You don’t like me, I don’t like you. You let me walk (to ‘cuse), I sign away any rights to my remaining pay, other wise I’m going to put your #1 pick QB in as running back and the QB will be a rotaion of defensive linemen”

OK enough of this BS at SU….when Lane Kiffin is fired from the farce of a HC job of the Oakland Raiders (another discussion for another time) sign him immediately to resurrect the SU program….we know the AD has familiarity with Lane from USC and Lane was known as a very good recruiter which is the KEY to any succesful college program…sorry GRob you couldn’t recruit if your life depended on it…on that subject ,you were supposedly a defensive guru in the NFL and your D at CUSE couldn’t stop a pop warner team …resign, get fired, whatever…just get the F out of Syracuse and never look back..
