We posted earlier in the day an item from the Buffalo News linking Raiders coach Lane Kiffin to the expected vacancy at fallen football power Syracuse.
But, as an NFL source pointed out to us later in the day, there’s a potential obstacle.
Raiders owner Al Davis went to Syracuse. And he has been a significant contributor to the school.
So the chances of Syracuse hiring the guy whom Davis eventually will fire are slim, in our view.

I dont see it as a problem if they truly think Kiffin is the answer to turn around this program. First off, Syracuse has many alum with big pockets who would be glad to support a winning team once again who will make up for some of the difference. Besides, if Al Davis doesn’t want him on the Orange sidelines, just keep him as his head coach and stop shadowing the guy. Let’s face it, Syracuse needs a head coach and a winning program again. It was embarassing honoring Ernie Davis(well and having Nike on his statue was also a bit embarassing)and thinking back to a great era with this program and then getting spanked by Penn State, not to mention it was a week after AKRON did it as well. For now though this speculation is useless since the Syracuse Orange and Oakland Raiders both have their head coaches in place. How about waiting until at least one of them is fired before we have this grand scenerio, especially since there are also about 3-4 other names “on the short list” of potential coaches?
